This paper reports the results of machine tool accuracy studies for given load cycles. An NC milling machine was characterized first under no-load conditions. The machine tool was instrumented for on-line force, torque, and temperature data acquisition. A specific cutting sequence and inspection was performed. Analysis of data indicates that static machine tool characterization parameters are different than those under actual cutting conditions. Based on the findings, some important issues are presented.
