THIS PAPER DESCRIBES THE THEORY AND DESIGN OF ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORKS. APPLICATIONS TO INDUSTRIAL CONTROLS ARE DISCUSSED WITH EMPHASIS ON TRACKING, VISUAL, ROBOTIC, AND PROCESS CONTROL. THE HARDWARE IMPLEMENTATION OF NEURAL NETS IS ALSO DISCUSSED WITH SPECIAL ATTENTION GIVEN TO DIGITAL AND ANALOG NEURAL NETWORKS, AND ON-CHIP LEARNING. THE PAPER REFLECTS RESULTS OBTAINED FROM THE LATEST RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT EFFORTS.
