Description / Abstract: This international standard provides guidelines for the design of the Extended Vehicle and its interfaces (physical, documentation, support, etc.) when introducing a new Extended Vehicle functionality.

It concerns the ExVe and road vehicles mentioned in the scope of ISO/DIS 20077-1:-1, regardless of the type of communication interface which is used between the ExVe and systems or parties outside the ExVe.

This document specifies a methodology applicable for each request for a new functionality of the Extended Vehicle involving direct or indirect communication between that vehicle and third parties, which may for example be the vehicle operator, the vehicle manager, service providers, or other ExVe’s. It addresses remote wireless use-cases.

This methodology considers all the constraints encountered when defining content of the ExVe and its communication. It does not standardise the implementation of software or hardware.

This methodology does not concern functionalities that solely involve communication within the ExVe. For example it typically does not concern functionalities related to communication within the engine system or between separate elements of the ExVe. This methodology does not describe the list of possible protocols and interfaces to communicate with the Extended Vehicle, the choice of these protocols and interfaces remaining the decision of the Extended Vehicle Manufacturer. For example this standard does not specify any type of interface solution, but invites the VM to consider implementing existing solutions that comply with the rules and basic principles specified by this document.

This standard concerns any request from a requester for a new functionality of the ExVe. It also concerns the case when an existing functionality is requested to be extended or remotely available. It is applicable by all the involved manufacturers in the case of a multi-stage manufacturing.

This standard relates to the design and production phases of a vehicle, where these phases include the subsequent design upgrades by the Extended Vehicle Manufacturer of vehicle models or types still in production. It doesn’t contain:

  • The process for a requester to formulate a request,

  • The process following the answer provided by the VM.

Note: Should new interfaces for remote communication with the vehicle become mandatory, then this document is also applicable for designing the requested ExVe functionalities
