Description / Abstract: This International Standard specifies the requirements of digital mock-up virtual assembly test for mechanical products, which is suitable for guiding virtual assembly test before physical production. The test is applicable to 3D nominal models without deformation.

Hereby, virtual assembly test is a simulation procedure on computer that is in lieu of a product’s physical prototypes test to verify mechanical interface design compliance and assembling feasibility. It could explore and resolve assembling problems before physical production by implementing virtual interference inspection, assembly process analysis and ergonomic evaluation based on 3D nominal models at design stage. It could be helpful to serve the results of virtual assembly test as prediction and early warnings of the risk of interference problems or assembly problems, although virtual assembly test cannot completely replace on-site assembly, integration and acceptance of physical product at shop floor.

The objectives of virtual assembly test are as following:

a) Verify mechanical interface compliance of units, sub-systems and system;

b) Ensure that overall system is interference-free, collision-free and all clearances are acceptable;

c) Validate layout design at every assembly levels;

d) Verify assembling feasibility and operational ability in manufacturing and utilizing environment;

e) Evaluate assembly process to optimize assembly program
