Description / Abstract:
This part of ISO 16000 specifies the general strategies for determining the concentration of airborne particles indoors. The size range between around 1 nm to 100 μm is considered by this document.
In addition, it describes methods for identifying typical indoor particle sources and gives general recommendation for obtaining a representative sampling of the room.
Section 5 describes main sources of indoor particulate matter and particle dynamics indoor. Section 6 describes various measurement methods with their advantages, drawbacks and areas of application indoors. Section 7 some general sampling recommendations. Section 8 the measurement strategies for determining airborne particles indoors and Annexe B gives a list of reference case studies with more specific sampling recommendations.
Additional documents in the ISO 16000 series will focus on each fraction of airborne particulates matter and give specific recommendation for these measurements.
Determination of the measurement uncertainty (Section 9) and minimal reporting information are also part of this standard.
This International Standard does not cover the determination of bioaerosols or the chemical characterisation of particles. For the measurement and assessment of dust composition, see the relevant technical rules in the ISO 16000 International Standards series.
This International Standard does not cover passenger compartments of vehicles and public transport systems.
