Provisions in NFPA 140 blend daily operational needs with the latest principles of fire protection, property protection, and life safety. New in the 2013 edition:Soundstage audiences are required to receive instructions relative to the location of exits and the means used to notify them in the event of a fire or other emergency.Use, mixing, dispensing or storage of flammable and combustible liquids must be per fire code.Hydrants, standpipes, and fire department connections must not be blocked, obstructed, or rendered inoperative.Where power from both mobile generators and site electrical services are used to energize equipment, the grounding must be bonded according to NFPA 70: National Electrical Code.Staying current with NFPA 140 is critical for set designers, architects, engineers, maintenance professionals, and AHJs charged with ensuring safety. NFPA 140 does not apply to theaters, auditoriums, radio broadcast locations, or post-production facilities.
